The Girl With a Pearl Earring- Vermeer
Activity #1: You will Watch a video at Learner.org about Portraiture by clicking on the box below. Take notes on each section of the video in your journal. This will be graded when I return. Make sure you have a heading in your notes for each section of the video! Activity #2: Display this image of Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl With Pearl Earring”. Distribute the “Back to Storyboard World…” handout & have students follow the directions while looking at the Vermeer painting.
Activity #3: Distribute “Finding the story inside the painting” questions. Play the TED Talk video. Students should answer the questions as they go along with her 14 minute talk. Use this Page's information (located by scrolling down) to guide you through analyzing Vermeer's painting and the movie "The Girl With the Pearl Earring" if you did not participate in the opening activities and discussions as we watched and analyzed the painting versus the book and the movie. |

EXTENSION:
Now that you know a little about Ray Charles Robinson, research Mary Ann Fischer. She was an artist right here from Kentucky that at one time toured with Ray Charles. Submit a half page reflection that gives that background of Mary Ann Fischer and how her songs were a portrait of her life. For extra credit create a presentation to present to the class to share with them her amazing life, career and musical style. Include your reflection on how her music was a form of self-portraiture. Make sure you schedule a time to present with Mrs. Nethery in advance. |
