The Lower East Side of New York City was famous for the slums that recent immigrants to America lived. The conditions were cramped, dirty, and unsanitary. This is the brief story of the famous "muckraker" Jacob Riss' efforts to document their living conditions.

The exhibition, Jacob A. Riis: Revealing New York's Other Half, is organized by the Museum of the City of New York in partnership with the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. The exhibition will be on view in New York from Oct. 6, 2015 to Mar. 20, 2016. It then travels to Washington, where it will be on view from April to September. It will then travel to Gamelstrand, Copenhagen and Kunstmuseum, Ribe. The publication is: Jacob A. Riis: Revealing New York's Other Half, A Complete Catalog of His Photographs, published by the Museum of the City of New York, Library of Congress, and Yale University Press.
